Rotary’s wine fest returns
The Rotary Club of Carlsbad puts on its Wine Vine Uncorked Carlsbad, a Wine & Vine Fundraising Event 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday July 30th at the Flower Fields, 5704 Paseo Del Norte. The tasting event is slated to include 13 Wineries from San Diego County and two from Paso Robles. The fundraiser benefits local nonprofit TERI, which helps people with special needs, the Carlsbad Rotary Foundation and The Flower Fields Foundation. North San Diego County Genealogical Society will meet 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday July 26 at Carlsbad City Council Chambers, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive and also virtually in webinar format for a presentation by professional genealogist Jeanette Schiel on “Don’t Give Up the Search: Strategies for Dealing with Record Loss.” Free. Citizens advisory committee has open seats
Carlsbad residents who are registered to vote can apply for one of six open seats on a citizens advisory committee that helps the city reinvest in its agricultural heritage. The agricultural mitigation fee committee typically meets once a year to make recommendations to the City Council on how to spend grant money from fees the city collects when agricultural land is developed for other uses in the coastal zone. The grants support certain kinds of agricultural, coastal and wetland restoration projects that improve quality of life in Carlsbad. Committee members are appointed by the mayor, with input from the City Council, and must file a statement of economic interest with the City Clerk’s Office. Terms run through Aug. 2025, or until all the grant funds have been allocated, whichever comes first. Applications are due by noon Aug. 5 and are at carlsbadca.gov or in the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Call (442) 339-2812.
Taste of Encinitas coming next month
The Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association 33rd Annual Taste of Encinitas is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 2, along Coast Hwy 101 in downtown Encinitas. With the purchase of a ticket, participants can get tastes from a number of local restaurants, sample wine and beer at Sip Stops and enjoy a variety of live music. Tickets are $40 per person, including food and 10 drink sample tickets. Same day tickets are $50, if not sold out. Art Night set for Saturday
Encinitas art galleries and civic venues are opening their doors for a free night of art and music, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday July 23 as part of Art Night Encinitas. The art open house, celebrates the city’s diverse visual art scene and benefits local artists through the sale of their art. Assistance League to hold holiday decor sale, donations sought
The Assistance League Rancho San Dieguito will hold a Chirstmas in July sale this week week of July 25, selling holiday décor at 30 percent off at its thrift shop, 1543 Encinitas Blvd. The nonprofit, volunteer League is looking for donations of holiday décor. No holiday clothing or large items will be accepted, but customers are welcome to dress up in their favorite holiday attire, as will the volunteers working at the store. The Escondido Mobilehome Positive Action Committee hosts Sgt. Jeff Valdivia of the Escondido Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing and Problem-Solving Unit, aka COPPS, 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30th at Imperial Estates Mobilehome Park clubhouse, 2300 East Valley Parkway. Valdivia will discuss the unit’s main purpose of reducing crime and addressing public concerns.
Weight loss support group meets Fridays
The Escondido TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) club meets 9 to 11 a.m. Fridays in the parish hall at Trinity Episcopal Church, 845 Chestnut St. This chapter of the support group for healthy weight loss started more than 60 years and has members of all ages. Library holds artist reception, recognition ceremony

‘Climate Change Hot Spots’ subject of talk
The Fallbrook Climate Action Team will present a talk on, ‘Climate Change Hot Spots’ led by Jonathon Cole, physics professor at Mira Costa College 6:30 p.m. Tuesday July 26 via Zoom. Cole will discuss his current research, drying “hot spots” in areas around the world, including California, and their impacts on threats such as wildfires. Cole, a MiraCosta physics instructor since 1984, was a visiting scholar in climate science at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1996 and 1997 and at Scripps’ Center for Atmospheric Science in 1995. The Oceanside Public Library offers free seeds, including herbs, vegetables, wildflowers and microgreens from its Seed Library, at the Civic Center Library, 330 N. Free state park passes offered at library
The Oceanside Public Library is one of a number of libraries throughout the state that offers free California State Parks passes for vehicle-day use available for circulation. Library customers can place a Parks pass on hold through the Library’s online catalog, pick it up at any Oceanside Library location and borrow it for 7 days and use the pass at over 200 participating State Parks through a partnership with California State Parks and the California State Library. Parkinson’s musical support group to give concert
Tremble Clefs, a free therapeutic singing program for people living with Parkinson’s and their care partners, is hosting a Family, Friends and Community Event 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the San Rafael Catholic Church Parish Hall, 17252 Bernardo Center Dr. The event, Together We Sing, will highlight and recognize the therapeutic benefits that the Tremble Clefs provides to the local Parkinson’s community. The San Marcos Writers’ Critique Group meets from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays via Zoom for serious writers to critique each other’s writings. Artists sought to paint utility boxes
The Solana Beach Public Arts Commission is looking for artists to propose conceptualized art wrap designs for utility and traffic signal boxes around the city. The program aims to wrap seven utility and traffic signal boxes at six locations in the community. If selected, the artist will receive a $450 stipend for each box art wrap design. Proposals must include a completed application for each artwork along with an image of the artwork. Proposals must be received by the city by 5 p.m. Aug. 15. Visit cityofsolanabeach.org.
Motorcycle art show fundraiser Saturday at brewpub
The American Motorhead Motorcycle Art Show is 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 30 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Prohibition Brewing Co., 2004 East Vista Way. The family-friendly event will feature motorcycle-themed works of art for sale by painters, leather designers, illustrators and other artists. Local vendors will donate a variety of prizes for raffle drawings, and artists will donate their talents to produce custom skateboard decks for a silent auction. Admission is free. Food, craft beer, beverages and raffles will be sold along with works of art. Proceeds go toward equipment for Scripps Health’s perinatology program for women with high-risk pregnancies.
