One of the most prominent bars on Brindleyplace is set to close to undergo a huge £800,000 renovation. The Pitcher and Piano is planning a 'complete overhaul' of its interior, planning to shut on August 30 until October 7 when it will reopen with a new look and more room, including updated covered outdoor seating.

The pub, which sits overlooking the canal, is set to install mid-height booths with table lamps 'to create a more homely feel'. It'll be decorated in new colours and there'll be a fluted bar front on the ground floor. Other decorations will include a double-sided light bulb wall and herringbone wood panelling.

The venue is also planning to install a photo booth in the venue, as well as an illuminated ampersand on a green wall, which is likely to appeal to those who keep a well-curated Instagram grid. The venue will be able to accommodate an increased number of guests, some 168 people.

All renovations are expected to be complete by October 7. The pub will have new canal-side tables as well as box hedges and festoon lights to decorate the al fresco spaces on the lower and ground floors.

The Pitcher and Piano says that it will have a new bookable private dining space too as well as other bookable spaces for celebrations.

Geoff Webber, director of operations at Pitcher and Piano, said: "We’re really excited to announce that Pitcher and Piano Birmingham, one of our most popular venues that has been in Brindleyplace for over 20 years, will be receiving an extensive refurbishment.

"We have invested a significant amount - over £800k - in giving the inside and outside spaces a complete overhaul. The bar is much loved by its regulars and a stalwart of the thriving hospitality scene in Brindleyplace.

"Pitcher and Piano is for every occasion, welcoming guests from day to night, whether it’s a special event or just after-work drinks. We can’t wait to reopen our doors in October and show Birmingham the new space."
